Well its been forever since my last post. I could claim that not a lot has been happening, but that wouldn’t be true. I think half the work dalready knows that Michelle and I have had a little girl called Hannah. Well this means that poker is less important, and also that when i do play, I often play more tired, or with a baby screeching in my ear or more usually both!

However, poker has not entirely left the realm. I am still playing in an MTT syndicate, which has reaped a profit of $2000 each so far. We have had a sub with Golden Jaguar replacing Chris B, as Chris is going travelling.

I played a lot of cash in Oct/Nov and was making good money on Sun poker, but unfortunately they shifted to ipoker. I swtiched to playing on littlewoods and after a good start, ended up playing like a fish. Therefore I had a rest and have just fooled around some.

However now we are in March, I have set myself a little challenge. I have played some €20+2 6 player DONs on B2B network and they appeared quite loose and beatable. Thuis this will be my main play this month and I will be trying to clear at least 100 of these. If this goes well i may try and work on turbo DONs - if I can manage these at a reasonable rate, the bonus payments will be quite good.

So with 620 starters I joined 10 minutes late due to my internet connection crashing and needing to reboot my pc, which takes forever to find not a lot happening on my table and for the first hour very little happened.

As the bubble approached I was getting quite desperate but thankfully the table tightened even further with the player on my left pleading with the rest of us to slow down to allow “the short stacks” to survive into the money. I promptly raised from the Small blind into his big blind! I then also had AQ and was able to raise again just as the bubble burst and I was guaranteed $250.

Coming back from the festival I found that after the first week I was playing MTTs really poorly without any patience and donking off my chips. Also with working and attending interviews alot I decided that I needed to try and only play when not tired. As a result I really cut down the amount I was playing, though I found time to play a few Virgin qualifiers and the new Festival league without much success.

The EMS qualifier last week provided 2 seats from 12 players and I started off playing really well with very few cards, picking up pots through timely reraises and calls from Ramchip who was in one of his raise every pot moods when we were 6 handed at the start. I hwoever didn’t progress until I thought Buffybegood was stealing my BB and I reraised all in with AJ. He had KK and luckily I hit an Ace to knock him out.

I then proceeded to move up and go really well until we got down to the last 4 whereupon I started spewing chips and getting involved when i shouldn’t. 4tKnox and Addick played pretty well but I got lucky and Addick missed out on qualifying. I need to sort my MTT game out now prior to the festival.

Well after a long delay, here is the update on the second day of the Newcastle Virgin festival.

The day started with a photo of the 10 players from EMS who made the top 49 in the event. Surprisingly I was stood at the back! Then play got under way and there seemed to be all ins and players dropping by the wayside every 5 minutes.

I had Chris B on my table and I was short stacked fairly quickly as were most of the table it seemed, but I was card dead and being bullied by the big stack. I stayed alive, by using the words “all in” every so often and just managed to keep up with the blinds. At no time was I called, but the best move I made was in the Big Blind when the small blind raised for 1/3 of his chips and I just felt that he was weak. Therefore I just went all in and after a long pause he folded. I had the monster hand of Ten, Six suited!

I had no cards at all seeing KQ as the best I had. However with not being called despite my numerous all ins I survived to lunch at 3pm. Last hand before lunch Chris goes all in with JJ and is called by AK and he doubles up, heading towards the final table. Just 27 left at this stage with 25 paid.

I spend lunch enjoying the fact that I should cash. Then first hand after lunch I am under the gun and get 99. The best cards i have seen the day and something I must play. So I go all in and it goes round to the big blind who calls with AK. First two cards on the flop….AK and I am crippled.

I am in the big blind and have JQ and 2 big blinds left. The other short stack goes all in and I call. He has 33 and after a flop of AK9 all of spades, I need any spade, Q , J or T to double up but miss and go out in 27th.

Gutted but pleased with my overall play, and the overall EMS performance was fantastic along with the comradeship of the EMS group, by far the friendliest, loudest, drunkest in the whole tournament!

Well the weekend started off well with Michelle being delayed due to “Cows on the line” when she was on the train to Gatwick. There was no need to worry about being late for the flight however as once we were through security we found out the flight was delayed. In the end we took off 3 hours late and there were no working toilets on the flight. All in all I think FlyBe have had better adverts for their services!

When we finally arrived into Newcastle we got to the hotel at 11.15pm. Part of your deal was to have dinner included in the price of our weekend and joyfully the chef had gone home at 11pm!

At least the room was nice and reasonably quiet considering the noise of the general Newcastle nightlife.

After a late breakfast we wandered around the city a little before arriving at Aspers only to stumble upon Beth, Scottie, Snappit, Argyllman and a very tired looking Stanters heading off for a coffee. After becoming members Michelle and I joined this motley crew before we all met up with the other EMSers for a lunchtime drink in the casino.

Good to see so familiar faces and meet a few new ones, though I can’t believe how many I seem to have missed over the 2 days. Immediately on being there could see Hypno fast asleep in the bar and Seventh Sense was chattering away as per usual.

Things finally got going at 3pm and we were tightly squeezed inside and outside the main poker room. It really was a squeeze which was a problem and some of the dealers were obviously new to poker, but all the ones I had were very friendly and no one seemed to mind the odd mistake.

With 40 minute levels I thought everybody would start tight but some of the play was very odd and no tables did it seem that anyone could put down a large pocket pair. My table soon became the “Table of Death” with all ins occurring 4 times in the first hour. One guy was incredibly lucky taking out 2 others the first time with his pocket aces spiking the river after being well behind to a flopped set.

After 3 people going out the table settled down, though I was getting no cards. I actually played 2 hands in the first 2 levels first putting a mid-position raise in with K T off-suit and folding to a re-raise from a tight player.

In the second hand I was on the button and after 2 limpers to my right, who had limped frequently before, I decided to raise with anything. In fact I did not remember what my cards were only that one was low and neither was a picture card. Unfortunately one of the limpers called my raise. The flop came down T 5 5 rainbow and so after it was checked to me I bet ¾ of the pot and was called. The turn came a 9 and again the limper checked and I bet ¾ of the pot. There was now over 4,500 chips in the pot and it was very big. The river brought a 2 and again it was checked to me. I looked at my cards and saw I had T 3 and decided to check. My opponent had pocket 7s and I took the pot and only showed my ten. This brought me up to average chips for the first time at 12k.

I was not getting cards but plugged away most of the evening until I got moved and on the big blind found myself with pocket 7s. The button raised and I pushed all-in. He sat and thought for a while saying that he thought he might be ahead, but would look silly otherwise and then eventually called and showed Ace Three! Thankfully my hand held up and I now had 32k with average stack around 20k. However I was changed tables and 3 hands later I was back down to 20k after I called a shorts stack’s all-in with their QQ beating my JJ.

I raised with position and got a few cards reraising with KK to which the initial raiser eventually folded and having KK again getting called and then I bet the flop and the villain folded. Once again I was a little below average but was moved tables twice in quick time and ended the day with 37k chips and blinds at 3k. So ten EMSers survived in total out of 49 – a great performance.

I was shattered by now and went back to the hotel leaving most of the other EMSers to see the night out.
